When people think of California wine country, Napa, Sonoma and Temecula often come to mind. But a growing community of winemakers is showing why Ventura County deserves a place in that conversation.
A recent KCLU feature explored the region's emerging wine scene, with Cavaletti Vineyards and founder Patrick Kelley helping tell the story. KCLU highlighted Ventura County's agricultural history, diverse growing conditions and the boutique producers creating wines from vineyards close to home.
Patrick explained that Ventura County's incredibly productive farmland may be one reason vineyards have historically represented a smaller part of local agriculture. That untapped potential helped inspire Cavaletti, founded in 2016 with a focus on distinctive vineyard sites and wines that authentically express Southern California.
The growing community was on display at the 2026 Ojai Wine Festival, where Cavaletti joined dozens of wineries and craft beverage producers. The event offered visitors an opportunity to discover smaller producers and wines they may not typically encounter on store shelves.
For Cavaletti, it's another sign that Ventura County is developing a wine identity of its own.
