Malbec is simply a joy to drink. Deep, dark fruit, generous texture, and smooth tannins make it one of the most immediately enjoyable red varieties we work with. Our interest in the variety began with our work with Ventura County Cabernet Sauvignon, where Malbec's fruit beautifully complements the herbal character we find in our cooler-climate Cabernet. For this vintage, we took inspiration from Malbec's ancestral home in Cahors, France, and incorporated 5% Tannat. It's a traditional combination: Malbec provides the generous fruit and immediate appeal, while Tannat contributes structure and the backbone for aging. After two years in older barrels, the wine is fresh, lively, and beautifully balanced. A wine that delivers plenty of pleasure today, with the structure to evolve over time.
